Spring… is that you? Lighter afternoons and milder temperatures suggest that it’s almost time to do away with the down-filled coats and umpteen layers required to leave the house.

Just remember clever layering is your secret weapon at this time of year, so don’t do away with the fine-knit cashmere and thermal vests just yet. They’ll look great under whichever new jacket you invest in.

You can’t go wrong with a classic denim jacket – the proof is in the fact that boxy, pocketed styles have been weathering trends for decades. An oversized silhouette is just the ticket when it comes to layering. Great thrown on over maxi skirts, silky slip dresses and even jeans for a double denim hit.

What did we do before shackets? The shirt-jacket hybrid’s new generation comes in thick wool and felted finishes, offering the warmth of a coat minus the bulk. If you’re impatient to get back into your printed midi dresses, a shacket is your ideal top layer.
