No one spends more time browsing on the John Lewis app than our team of fashion and lifestyle journalists. So what will they be checking out come payday?
Though we may be staggering towards autumn, I’m here to tell you that summer is not lost. There’s plenty of time to feel like you’ve had the sunny time of your life – or, let’s be honest, to fake it. For my complexion, best described as ‘peaky’, it means skincare that helps me look like I’ve spent a month in a southern European coastal idyll, dining on a vitamin-rich Mediterranean diet (instead of taking shelter under trees and awnings, treating Mr Whippy as a major food group). I’m talking tint, I’m talking glow, backed up with beach-wave hair and mood-elevating, blossom-light fragrance.
Well done, sun, on achieving the most longed-for comeback since the original Sugababes. Also, I have to hand it to you, rain, you’re a tryer. When it comes to dressing for this weather, only two words apply: layer up. I’ll be reaching for a cosy cardi (as much a part of the British summer as Wimbledon and pub gardens), plus there’s never a bad time for a denim jacket. Chunky-heeled sandals make good puddle-hurdlers. I might even put some statement socks underneath when the temperature drops – go ahead, your words can’t hurt me – and these Mango numbers will definitely be resurfacing later as foot-friendly Christmas party attire.
With the end of summer in sight, I enter my aggressive outdoor dining period, where anything more substantial than a sip of water or a light snack must be enjoyed alfresco ‘while we still can’. The rainy, overcast July we endured has only served to intensify this obsession. I am realistic, though, so I’ll be relying on throws and extra lighting to combat the cooler, duskier evenings, and using this last hurrah as an excuse to give my crockery and tableware a serious glow-up.
