Advertising feature: The New Year’s Eve flawless finish with Dior
Ring in the new year with a show-stopping make-up look
While Christmas might be the official focus of the season, party lovers know that New Year’s Eve is the true highlight. Anything goes...and that applies to your make-up too, with no such thing as too much drama. Renowned make-up artist Nikki Wolff guides us through what she calls ‘the ultimate NYE party look’.
Step 1: Set the scene
Nikki says, ‘For what will probably be the most photographed night of the year, you want your canvas to be flawless’. To achieve this, she uses Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation, a full-coverage foundation that delivers instantly skin-perfecting coverage, while leaving a luminous finish that lasts up to 24 hours (hopefully long enough to outlast any party!).
Nikki advises: ‘pour the foundation onto the back of your hand, then start applying it with a brush - this will give more concentrated coverage than using your fingers. Start in the centre of your face and blend outwards using small sweeping movements. This gives more coverage at the centre of your face, where most people need it the most’.
It wouldn’t be a New Year’s look without some spotlight-stealing highlighter. Nikki sweeps Diorskin Mineral Nude Luminizer in 01 Nude Glow over the highest point of the cheekbones with a small brush. For an extra glowy look, Nikki then takes a smaller brush and applies the highlighter to the temples, brow bone and Cupid’s bow.
Step 2: Bring the drama
Nikki says, ‘whereas a classic smoky eye is lighter in the inner corner and becomes darker towards the edges of the eye, for this look I’ve made both the inner and outer corners of the eye dark, with a pop of metallic colour running through the centre to create a playful, modern effect’.
She breaks it down: ‘using a small brush, take the deepest shade of the Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Happy 2020 - 017 Celebrate in Gold, and apply it to the outer corner of the lash line. Press the product upwards to the crease. Do this for the inner and outer corners of the eye, on both your upper and lower lid, using a slightly fluffier brush to blend the edges. Next, take a smaller brush and apply the metallic shade above the centre of the eye, pressing it in place - this will prevent fallout and give a more intense colour.’
Surprisingly, Nikki says, ‘now’s the time to apply concealer under your eyes and wherever else you need it. By doing this after you’ve applied your eye make-up, you’ll keep the eye area really clean and fresh’. Nikki chooses Dior Forever Undercover concealer for its waterproof finish - perfect for dancing all night.
Step 3: Final touches
No New Year’s Eve look would be complete without lashings of mascara. Nikki applies Diorshow Pump 'N' Volume HD Mascara in 090 Black, sweeping it through the lashes from root to tip. The innovative packaging allows you to ‘pump’ more air into the tube, refreshing the formula and making it softer and easier to apply each time you use it. Nikki adds,‘top tip - I like to use end of the mascara wand to deposit product on the bottom lashes, then comb through afterwards for a really dramatic look.’
Nikki finishes the look by applying Dior Rouge Ultra Care Lipstick in 808. She suggests: ‘lightly dab the lipstick using your ring finger. This will remove any excess product and leave a longer-lasting stain’. In addition to an impressive wear time of up to 12 hours, the formula is infused with hydrating camelina oil to keep lips soft and smooth - ideal if you’re anticipating a New Year’s Eve kiss…
