This week’s edit includes fancy PJs, luxe throws and festive tableware
I know a big part of Christmas cheer is socialising until your throat is hoarse and your feet are sore, but in between the ice-skating, wreath-making and visits to see Santa there’s something delicious about staying in.
Those cosy nights where you shut out the world, close the curtains and sit in front of the fire with a good book (or TV series) can feel just as festive. I’m planning to use that rare downtime to live in my pyjamas, under a new blanket with a festive tumbler filled with mulled wine.
The word loungewear still makes me shudder thanks to 2020 when I lived in trackie bottoms and greying hoodies for much longer than anyone should. So rather than descend back into that, I’m plumping for classy matching pyjama sets. I’m thinking a jersey one for comfort and also a green silk pair that’ll look chic on Christmas morning, with a couple of accessories to boot.
One of the best parts about this time of year is getting all the Christmas decorations out, dusting them off and untangling the fairy lights (while eating Quality Street to keep you going). We definitely don’t need any more baubles or gonks in my house, so this year I’ll be investing in a cosy throw to cover our ancient leather Chesterfield, blankets for my girls and plenty of new festive cushions to make our sitting room as snug as possible.
I love a tablescape, whether it’s a super matchy-matchy tablecloth and napkins or a piece of rustic white linen with mismatched glasses and flowers from the local market. One of my favourite things to do at Christmas is buy a roll of material from the haberdashery and hem it to make a new tablecloth. However, with three kids and a full-time job I might not get around to it this year, so I’ll be investing in one that has deep berry tones and adding new ceramics, glassware and as many candles as I can fit on the table without causing a fire hazard.
