Ready for a summer wardrobe refresh? Try these 5 hot trends
Give your new-season what-to-wear options a much-deserved revamp with these five must-try looks
We did it: we made it through winter, we made it through months and months of multiple layers – ones that I, personally, could not wait to shred. We also survived the ups and downs, ins and outs of an ever-changeable spring. And now, officially, the wait is finally over. So without further ado, here are five looks we should all be channelling this summer.
Loose, masculine separates
If you’re a fan of the skinny jean, it’s best you look away now. Oversized, masculine-fitting separates have (finally, in my eyes) made a comeback. And they look great, especially when juxtaposed with feminine pinky hues. Big, baggy shirts pair nicely with wide-leg trousers – but only if they’re worn in the right way. This isn’t about buying clothes too many sizes too big, it’s about picking out pieces that are intentionally boxy. That way, they won’t drown you and instead will elevate your look to the next level.
The wear-anywhere dress
A staple in any woman’s wardrobe should be a throw-on-and-go dress, much like this green and white striped beauty from Nobody’s Child. A dress like this oozes effortless style and requires very little else in terms of accessories or layers – especially when the sun really starts pounding down. Throw over a bikini on holiday, wear with heels for a wedding or pair with trainers and a denim jacket or oversized white shirt for the office. A multi-faceted, must-have piece.
The easy, everyday co-ord
The co-ord has serious staying power, and for good reason. Come rain or shine, a duo as strong as this will outlast the summer, turning into two separate pieces which are as stylish together as they are apart. A printed set is a must-have for summer – easy to elevate for a wedding or garden party with the right pair of shoes – and is something a little different from its less interesting and more plain sisters.
The of-the-moment layering piece
Whatever the occasion, a faux leather, boxy chore jacket is the answer. Trust us. We’re into a lighter colour for summer, like this beige one from John Lewis & Partners. We love the easy effortlessness of it, especially when thrown over a white T-shirt and jeans. Don’t sleep on this pretty perfect layering piece.
The all-eyes-on-me dress
With wedding season ramping up, what’s better than a dress that genuinely gives the wow factor? Neons and bright tones are huge this summer and look especially good on darker skin tones. The bold sleeve on a dress like this takes it up a notch and pulls it firmly into the showstopper category.
