No one spends more time browsing on the John Lewis app than our team of shopping-addicted fashion and lifestyle journalists. So what will they be checking out come payday?
I’ve recently become a dad. I know the assignment calls for cashmere quarter-zip pullovers, salmon pink chinos and a pair of unironic running trainers. But instead I’m opting for a modern take on fatherhood vibes. I want a wardrobe that screams Dadcore. Colour is key. I’m going to stand out in the playground with Australian alt brand, Deus Ex Machina. Sure, I’m just in leafy south east London, not the Alaskan wilds, but plenty of Gorpcore utility detailing means I’ll have hundreds of pockets, perfect for a diverse array of dad stuff – from half-eaten lollipops to tiny, inexplicably sticky toys. Last, and this might be going against the grain, synthetic materials are a must. This Kin shirt is as light and breathable as a silk alternative, but its Lyocell-blend material means it can handle as much muck as my daughter will throw at it (literally).
It’s properly hot now. In my house, that means fully embracing the indoor/outdoor lifestyle – chiefly because my daughter point blank refuses to stay inside. The John Lewis Anyday bistro table set in sage works in any outdoor space, from gardens to balconies. Soon we’ll make every meal al fresco and these Bordallo Pinheiro earthenware dishes instantly transport me back to a summer jaunt to Lisbon.
Stereotype: dads love a bit of tech. Well not always, but in my clichéd case it is 100% true. Tech is good. One of the most searched for items on the John Lewis site is the Ninja electric BBQ. Having played around with it this weekend, I can see why. Read our Senior Editor Holly Rains’ review of the hit grill here. I’m a massive Dyson fan and they’ve just launched a whole suite of new tech, from robot vacuums to headphone purifiers. This latest vacuum even uses a laser to detect dust. A laser! A vacuum with a laser. What will Sir James think of next?
