Home Decor Ideas & Inspiration Simple tricks to make your spare room space work for you
With a multi-talented sofa bed, you can ditch the dumping ground vibe and create a spare room with plenty of vroom
Creating living spaces that live up to their full potential has become more and more important over the last few years, yet the spare room has always been a tricky space to utilise.
Throughout the waking hours, the guest bedroom doesn’t see a hint of action, so making it a home-office seems a sensible decision. That’s until your guests are sleeping on a blow-up mattress surrounded by computer leads and draping their clothes over your desk chair. So, how do you level up that handy bit of space?
The humble sofa bedSure, enlisting the help of a nifty bit of furniture that lends itself to flexible living isn’t rocket science: what’s not to love about a sofa by day and a bed by night? But how about one that includes extra storage and can be adapted to suit your space? Hello, the Sansa Sofa Bed. It splits into two modules, allowing you to move the chaise section (with its hidden storage) from one side to the other – great for the indecisive among us who want the option of which configuration works best. Yes, it’s functional, but that doesn’t mean it scrimps on comfort. The pull-out bed has a foam mattress that acts like springs. Moulding to the body for a supported sleep, it returns to its original shape when not in use. Happy guests and hosts all round, then.
Less of the ‘spare’, thank you!No matter how big, small, square or weirdly shaped your room is, we think no space should be labelled as spare. Call it the ‘playpatch and cinema’, tuck the toys away from a day of fun, pull out the sofa bed and have the popcorn at the ready. More of the productive type? Try ‘office-lly the guest room’, ideal for the diligent host who also WFH. But as far as we’re concerned, there’s nothing like ‘the sanctuary’: kit out the space with a plant or two (or five), add a scented candle, fill a bookshelf with your favourite reads and snuggle up on the sufficiently-scatter-cushioned sofa. Our top tip: hang a do-not-disturb sign on the door…
