It’s All Good Folk: menswear with a sustainable message
It’s All Good Folk's utilitarian pieces are crafted from sustainable materials and built to last a lifetime
London-based label, Folk, has been championing its understated and well-made casual wear since its launch in 2002. Known for its pared-back design, immaculate attention to detail and use of quality sustainable fabrics, the brand has become much-loved as a go-to for modern classics and grown-up streetwear. But it was the drive to bridge the widening gap between fashion and sustainability that led the brand’s founder, Cathal McAteer, to design his capsule label, It’s All Good Folk, exclusively with John Lewis & Partners.
‘Folk has always conducted itself to a standard that I’m proud of,’ Cathal explains. ‘But I looked at what we were doing and what we could be doing, and decided to launch a line that that looked at everything – from how and where a piece is made, to how it’s packed and shipped.’
Organic and recycled materials are used throughout the collection, specifically GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) cotton and recycled nylon, with recycled paper and card used for packaging. It also champions repairing and recycling: the tagline ‘Wear It Out’ encourages customers to do just that, ensuring they become wardrobe staples for decades to come.
In a step that moves even further away from the world of fast fashion, the collection has been designed with very little emphasis on trends. ‘The men and women wearing these clothes are looking for modern, relevant pieces that don't follow fast trends.’ Think key essentials like throw-on jackets and coats, printed shirts, staple trousers and timeless accessories.
Folk's die-hard fans will notice that the label's classic design aesthetic is evident throughout It’s All Good Folk: boxy silhouettes, an earthy colour palette and a modern, but wearable take on traditional menswear. ‘Garments have been made to be worn,’ explains Cathal. ‘The design is utilitarian and littered with Folk’s DNA, from our rich archive of over 30 different collections.’
It’s All Good Folk is an exclusive collaboration between Folk and John Lewis & Partners and is available online now.
