It’s a misconception that sustainable clothes cost more. There are definitely pieces that cost a pretty penny, but there are also cheaper options too. Look for clothes made with either supima or organic cotton, or those that employ recycled fabric. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for sale pieces, too.
Gifts under £100
If you’ve got a bigger budget to play with, there are great eco gift options in jumpers, lightweight jackets, chinos and jeans – just make sure that you’re picking the right fabrics. Our sustainable menswear edit does the hard work for you but if you want to search for yourself, look out for clothes made from GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) organic cotton, recycled polyester, wool and nylon. Our go-to brands? It’s All Good Folk, Nudie Jeans, and our own John Lewis & Partners collection.
Gifts under £200
In this price range look for big ticket items like cashmere jumpers or coats from John Lewis & Partners or Kin, bulky leather shoes from British brands such as Grenson, or built-to-last outerwear from the likes of Barbour and Fjällräven. There are a couple of things to tick off on your eco-checklist before buying: make sure that the item is made as close to home as you can find; that it uses as much pure or recycled material as possible; and that it comes from a trusted brand known for creating durable, built-to-last pieces.
