The power outfits to make the best first impression

In recent months, the world of online dating has got a whole lot more complicated. Gone are the days of swiping right, agreeing on a pub and showing up wearing a slightly nicer version of what you wore to the office that day. Dating in the world of quarantine is a different ballgame: there’s no dress code established by the date’s setting, no rush hour to blame for looking scruffy, no meeting to use as an excuse for being overdressed.

Dressing for a virtual date takes patience, practice and just the right amount of panache. For a first meeting, it’s better to err on the side of caution and go casual rather than over-the-top smart, but that’s not to say that your loungewear should make an appearance (on your top half, at least). Pick pieces that you can layer up, like a polo shirt and zip top or a simple cotton T-shirt and fitted sweatshirt. When (and if) things progress, start weaving in colour, pattern and – when it feels right – go a little smarter. A rugby shirt, a striped or floral shirt or a colour-block T-shirt are all good options. Below are a couple of different outfit options to set you off on the right foot.
