Why a trouser suit should be your new wedding guest go-to
As we hit peak wedding season, consider a trouser suit to solve your fashion-related conundrums
In preparation for wedding season, we have a sea of lovely wedding guest dresses to choose from – colourful, classic, floral or flouncy. But what if I fancy doing things differently this year? What if I turn up wearing the exact same thing as another guest? What if, shudder, I’ve picked the same dress as a bridesmaid?
The solution is a trouser suit. For every type of wedding, the two-piece is an investment you’ll be thankful for when you can split up the jacket and trousers to wear them in a million different ways all year round. (It’s all about the layering.)
The best trouser suits now are boxy, masculine shapes in a bold colour. Think oversized (but well-tailored) trousers, a sturdy shoulder and a properly fitted jacket. The idea is that, if appropriate, you don’t have to wear anything underneath – and if you do, it appears effortless.
A suit like this should take you from an English countryside wedding to city registry office or exotic destination – simply style to, er, suit. Linen is always a good shout, especially at this time of year, and we’re huge fans of oranges, purples, pinks and reds – most of which look fabulous on every skin tone. Just don’t wear white.
