Why we’re obsessed with the Stanley Quencher
Are you a Stanley stan yet?
Chances are, if you like to hydrate, have social media and are human, you will have seen a Stanley cup.
Videos featuring the stainless-steel, double-wall, vacuum-insulated cup have amassed over 87.7 million views on TikTok in the past year and prompted a 272% sales jump in the second week of launch at John Lewis. Not bad work, Stanley Quencher.
Like most trends that go viral on social, the Stanley cup isn’t actually a new invention. William Stanley invented them more than a century ago but thanks to the Quencher’s aesthetically pleasing pastel shades, celebrity fans and ability to keep water cold for up to two days (when ice is added), it’s become the go-to drinking vessel for thirsty individuals everywhere.
To the untrained eye, it may look like a modern interpretation of a medieval tankard that’s simply another fad, but having a cup that holds more than a litre of water to hand can only be a good thing.
‘Hydration is key for optimal health in particular liver health, which underpins hormonal health,’ says registered nutritionist Hannah Alderson, who recommends refillable containers made from stainless steel to her clients.
‘Dehydration can impact nearly all functions of the body so it is something to be avoided at all costs. Just don’t forget to give it a deep clean at least twice a week.’
