On trial: Roberts Reunion speaker
Waterproof, with 360-degree sound and it looks this good? This is a cult classic for a reason
Speakers, speakers, we all love them. But let’s be honest: they are not created equal. We’ve all been there, parting with our hard-earned money in exchange for a tiny box with tinny sound that breaks within a month (if you’re lucky). Which is why it’s best to leave it to the professionals. In this case: Roberts.
What is it?
The Roberts Reunion portable waterproof Bluetooth speaker is a gloriously lightweight yet powerful Bluetooth speaker with all the trimmings that you’d expect from a brand with so much longevity in the audio game.
With 18 hours of continuous playtime and an impressively waterproof exterior, it’s the perfect companion for everything from pool hangs (the dream) to blustery, rainy walks (the reality).
Why do you need it?
Let’s be honest: we all need a speaker. From weekends away to dinner parties at home, there’s nothing worse than falling short in the music department. And if you can become the go-to guy who always brings the speaker, even better.
What’s great about this specific Roberts one is how lightweight it is. At 725g, you barely notice it’s in your bag. And even though it may be light and small (it’s 19cm tall), don’t assume that it’s timid with its sound – it’s not. It’s impressively loud, delivering a super clear 360-degree audio from two full-range drivers and two passive radiators. And crucially, it looks really good.
How easy is it to work?
Extremely. There are no complex instructions and there aren’t a million wires, either. In the box, you’ll find your speaker, its charger and a simple side of cardboard with all the instructions. Simply turn on the speaker, connect it to your device of choice, and Bob’s your uncle – music for a full 18 hours.
Is the Roberts Reunion speaker worth it?
In my humble opinion, yes – £79.99 feels like a bit of a steal for a speaker of this quality. Roberts is a household name that has been in the audio game for over 90 years, so of course it’s incredibly trustworthy.
There are much bigger and more overpowering speakers on the market but I’d say this is the perfect entry-level speaker, particularly if you’re looking for something that’s easy to travel with.
It’s worth noting that you can also amplify your sound with the Roberts multi-cast feature, where you can add multiple speakers together for an even more immersive sound experience. Pretty cool.
