On trial: Dyson’s Cool CF1 Desk Fan
Relief from the heat in as little as five seconds? I’m a fan of that
Our Dyson Cool CF1 Fan Review
As much as I love summer, it has always been a season with a set of challenges – clothes sticking to skin, sunburn, warm wine and hopeless old fans vibrating loudly when you’re trying to sleep.
Of course, pioneering brand Dyson wasn’t satisfied with that. So, over a decade ago, it invented the world’s first bladeless fan, solving one summer situation and giving us better performance and peace. Now the innovative brand has launched the Dyson Cool CF1, its smallest, smartest and most efficient fan to date. Seeing as the UK is currently experiencing sweltering temperature, there simply couldn’t be a better time to test it. Read on for my cool review.
What is the difference between the Dyson Cool CF1 Fan and a normal fan?
Firstly, Dyson’s fan doesn’t really look like a fan. It has a bladeless design, which means it delivers a smooth, consistent and uninterrupted airflow that helps to cool you faster. The design also makes it safer around children (no trapped fingers), there are no dust-collecting grilles and it’s quieter than a traditional fan because there are no loud, fast-spinning blades. Love.
What makes the Dyson Cool CF1 Fan special?
Other than the bladeless design, which means no choppy air and a near-silent draught, the patented Air Multiplier™ technology provides a fast, powerful, smooth breeze for immediate heat relief (370 litres of airflow per second, to be exact).
It’s Dyson’s most energy-efficient fan (it delivers a fast and powerful cooling breeze at only 30watts), there’s a one-touch button to oscillate and a new LCD screen showcases the ten speeds. Finally, the new sleep timer can be used to dim the display and adjust the speed throughout the night. You can set it and forget it. And did I mention the slim white remote control, which attaches magnetically to the top of the fan to prevent it being lost. Clever.
Do Dyson fans actually cool the air?
In short, no, because it’s not an air conditioner. The fans can’t lower the room temperature but they can make you feel cooler by circulating the air and blowing it directly on your body, and I’ll take that over day and night sweats, every time.
Is it worth getting a Dyson fan?
Although it’s technically a desk fan, it’s powerful enough to be respected as a full-size model. At 1.8kg it’s easy to carry around from office to bedroom and, even better, it’s so easy to use. You simply slot the fan into the base, then twist and click to secure. What’s more, the price doesn’t make your eyes water and it’s whisper-quiet, even at top speed, so working and sleeping during a heatwave is a breeze.
