It’s true what they say – it’s what’s on the inside that counts

Saying goodbye is never easy. Especially when you’ve been sleeping together for more nights than you can count. But there comes a time when you just have to accept it – you need new pillows. And if, like me, you’ve fallen out of love with your current set, you’re going to want to consider this John Lewis specialist support memory foam cluster pillow.

A pillow is just a pillow, right?

Wrong. Not all pillows are equal. For a start, this pillow has memory foam cluster support that moulds to the shape of your head and neck. Think plush, cushy comfort that always knows what you want – ideal if, like me, you’re a bit of a Goldilocks in bed.

Speaking of Goldilocks, I just love how unfussy this pillow is. It’s there for you no matter how you sleep, be it front down, spooning side on or ‘too-full-from-dinner’ belly up. A total gamechanger if you’re always waking up with back or neck pains.

How supportive is it?

I was a little sceptical going in – anything that isn’t firm usually gets an instant no from me. But one night in and I was eating a hefty slice of humble pie. It took no time to get used to, never went flat in the middle, and morning fluffing has been minimal. So convenient.

So it’s comfy then?

Oh, 100%, and that’s not just my opinion. My other half’s taken to sneaking off to bed early so she could nab it before I come to bed. Pro tip: buy two pillows before you start trying to justify a 6pm bedtime.

What if I like a firm pillow?

No worries. We’ve got an almost identical one with your name on it.

Is it easy to look after?

In a word, yes. It comes with a quilted cover that’s machine washable and tumble dryer-friendly – anything that means I get more time sleeping and less time washing is a win in my eyes.

How much does it cost?

At £70, it’s not exactly cheap. But if you want to get serious about sleep, you can’t put a price on it.

The verdict

Taking care of yourself doesn’t get any easier than this. No wild routine changes, no crack of dawn 5km jogs, no morning smoothies that look radioactive. Just you and the best night’s sleep you’ve had in ages.

This is a need, not a want. Waking up with fewer aches and pains alone is worth it; the memory foam is just a bonus. You’re going to spend a third of your life sleeping – it’s worth the investment. ★★★★
