Handmade from natural rattan, the Chester lounge chair from Desser is an attractive design for the living room or conservatory. Made with open cane mesh webbing on the sides, front and back panels, with a Pirelli webbing base for durability. The high back seat and wide seat area provide comfort, along with the UK-made hand-sewn cushions in a lily print.
Strong and durable, natural rattan is low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Wipe the furniture clean with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Keep the furniture in a dry environment and avoid leaving it under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The furniture's colour lasts longer if moved around a conservatory regularly to protect it from direct sun in the same spot.
Sustainably sourced in Indonesia, rattan is fast-growing compared to wood alternatives and, as a companion crop, its farming encourages the preservation of forests. Every part of the rattan vine is used. Outer rattan cane is used for attractive weaving and the solid core is steamed to manipulate it into beautiful furniture shapes.

Brand information
Desser has a proud heritage stretching back to 1919 and over four generations of the same family. During World War I, Issac Desser, as a young British soldier, was posted to serve on the front line in Belgium and came into contact with Flemish craftsmen producing various types of basketware. Realising the commercial potential, on his return home from the army, he quickly set to work on his plan to import these baskets from Belgium for sale to retail outlets in Britain. Like many new family businesses, Desser had humble beginnings, at first being run from the front parlour of Issac’s mother-in-law’s terraced house in Manchester. Expanding the company base over the years in the Greater Manchester area, Desser has become one of Britain’s leading importers and distributors of cane furniture from the Far East, as well as wickerware from around the world.
