Danish designer Erik Magnussen is known for his tableware and furniture collections. His series for Royal Selangor includes barware items with pewter highlights but otherwise minimal decoration, relying purely on fine detailing to make them beautiful.
This hip flask won the 1991 Design Plus Award at the Frankfurt International Gift Fair and it still stands as both a principle example of modern design values and an excellent gift idea.
Pewter is almost maintenance-free as it does not react with the air to oxidise or tarnish. It can attract dust and dirt, but all that's required is an occasional wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Over time and with use, pewter develops a pleasing and subdued patina unique to the metal which is part of the beauty of investing in this material.

Founded in 1885, Royal Selangor has grown to become the world’s largest pewter brand. Synonymous with innovative design and excellence in craftsmanship, they are now an internationally-recognised name in pewter gifts and accessories.
The Royal Selangor story began more than a century ago when a young pewterer named Yong Koon sailed from the port of Shantou, China to the tin rich shores of Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. Initially he produced ceremonial pewter items such as incense burners for other Chinese migrants. As an early forerunner to the company’s ongoing commitment to meeting the changing needs of the consumer he later developed cigarette boxes, tankards and tea services for British military personnel residing in Malaya at that time.
