ØY - Island Solitude
[’ø??]
Norwegian for ‘island’
Hundreds of thousands of uninhabited islands glitter like stars upon the lakes and seas of Scandinavia, inviting explorers to pull up and rest a while. With scent notes of crabapple and dog rose, water mosses and green leaves.
Vegan friendly, this candle is made with a new Swedish rapeseed wax blend and the glass is 30% recycled. The beechwood lid is from FSC-certified European forests and the packaging card comes from FSC-certified Swedish forests with natural colour dyes
Certified as a B Corporation in summer 2019, the work of Skandinavisk in the areas of certified raw materials, local production, due diligence in sourcing and supplier standards, and policies toward their staff, including their refugee integration program, all contributed to meeting the stringent criteria to become a B Corporation. Skandinavisk now joins a global movement using business as a force for good, in which all B Corp members are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their staff, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

Brand information
Englishmen Shaun and Gerry created Skandinavisk after moving to Copenhagen and Stockholm almost twenty years ago, each falling for and marrying a blonde local, and both falling for the Scandinavian way of life; of the balance between the vast silent landscapes and raw seasons, and the quiet sophistication and cosy shared moments of the inhabitants.
Skandinavisk make it their mission to inspire the world to take a more Scandinavian approach to life, and their home and body collections are designed to tell stories from Scandinavia in fragrance and design. An independent company, Skandinavisk was founded in 2012 and remains based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 2019 Skandinavisk was one of the first fragrance brands in the world to become a Certified B Corporation. B Corps are companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact, and are legally required to consider the impact of all their decisions on their people, customers, suppliers, community and the planet.
In 2020 Skandinavisk releases its ‘next generation’ product collection. An entirely updated and upgraded series of products that are more local, natural, organic, ethical and responsible. Exactly seven years after launch, Skandinavisk has updated and upgraded its entire product collection to be more local, natural, organic, ethical and responsible. This new collection is wrapped in a gently evolved graphic design, pattern motif and logo.
Each of Skandinavisk’s fragrances are designed to reflect an aspect of the Scandinavian region that is both precious to the locals and exotic to the outside world. The pattern motif that wraps each fragrance represents the story of Scandinavia, and the individual symbols signify those aspects, or chapters.
The base for Skandinavisk’s new candle wax is sourced from traceable, sustainably farmed and non-GMO Swedish rapeseed oil. It is blended to burn as slowly and stably as previous wax bases, just with less overall impact.
Skandinavisk’s new candle glass sizes - 200g and 65g - are larger and more durable for better heat protection, longer life, and more usage options once the wax is finished. The glass is produced and decorated in the European Union, contains up to 30% recycled materials, is decorated with coloured paint from metals-free water dyes, and is dishwasher proof. The complementary engraved beechwood lid comes from European FSC-certified forests.
Skandinavisk’s new packaging card is sourced from managed Swedish forests and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). It’s a little-known fact that Sweden is 70% forested, almost all her forests have been replanted at least once, and the felling rate has been less than the growth rate for more than a century - a tribute to Sweden’s leadership in responsible forestry.
