Brand information
In 1935 while out sailing, Paul Sperry slipped and fell overboard. As he climbed back onto his boat, the idea that would launch a company was born: a shoe uniquely designed to ground its wearer, no matter how uncertain the conditions.
Sperry looked to the world around him for inspiration and found it in the natural texture of his dog Prince’s footpads, which never seemed to slip, even on ice. Cutting patterned grooves into blank rubber shoe soles, Sperry developed the world’s first non-slip boat shoe. We’ve been providing firm footing to people from all walks of life ever since.
