Makeup artist Caroline Barnes introduces the mascara raising the bar (and our lashes)

I’ve got a killer recommendation that every mascara lover will thank me for but be warned; this is not one for the lash shy!

I was first introduced to this beautiful mascara after I’d seen some great reviews for it in America and managed to nab one as soon as they launched over here. I do get sent a lot of Hourglass products for work anyway but couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one so bought it as soon as it dropped and immediately bought three more after trying it. Since then, I’ve been very lucky that the PR keeps me well-stocked as I like to rack them up in my kit so that I never run out.

I’ve tried so many mascaras over the course of my career as a makeup artist and can’t bear ones that bleed but this ultra-black formula stays put every time with no smudging or flaking yet still removes easily with just soap and water.

Ease is the name of the game, especially when I’m trying to get an eye look on quickly for work and as let’s face it, most of us are time poor these days, but this magic wand gives instant gratification thanks to the gorgeous slim brush which makes it super easy to apply with no messy mascara left on your lids – it’s quite simply brilliant.

However, if it’s an ultra-natural look you’re going for or you have naturally thick, luscious lashes and like that no-mascara effect, this is not the product for you. One sweep gives you a full-on mascara look that I often opt for when I don’t want to resort to lash inserts to bulk up the lashes. A pet hate of mine is when you see the eyeshadow and not the lashes but there’s no chance of that with this mascara and as a result I use it a lot for red carpet events (for editorial shoots mascara is a bit of a dirty word whilst for celebrities more is generally more).

Obviously it’s what the inside that counts but it doesn’t hurt that the packaging is rather easy on the eye too.  The divine gold toblerone shape makes a beautiful gift and for me the key is that it doesn’t chip as I can’t bear it when packaging turns black after two seconds flat or the label comes off.

In essence it’s perfection in a mascara.
