On trial: Sage’s new Oracle® Jet coffee machine

Olivia Adams,-Senior Editor

The bean-to-cup coffee machine sets a new standard in coffee preparation

If I had to pick my favourite drink, I’d say it’s tea. Sorry, probably not the strongest start to a coffee machine review, but perhaps this makes me an even better tester – I’m not biased, addicted or obsessed. I simply savour a quality coffee a couple of times a week. That said, a barista I am not – but Sage promises its brand-new Oracle® Jet espresso machine lets you enjoy the expert experience without the skills. Here’s how I got on with the global brand’s latest launch.

Choose from 11 pre-programmed drinks

What is the Oracle® Jet coffee machine?

Put simply, it’s a bean-to-cup machine, which means you put whole coffee beans into the Oracle® Jet's built-in coffee grinder (I used Caravan), and then the machine gets to work creating your drink of choice.

First impressions? Wow, it’s smart. Like really smart. Available in Brushed Stainless Steel and Black Truffle, it has a five-inch touchscreen display with high resolution and with one swipe you can choose from 11 pre-programmed drinks – including frothy lattes and brand-new Cold Brew and Cold Espresso options. Again, wow.

The machine has an automated milk frother, which can be set to start foaming milk for cappuccinos and lattes so it's ready as soon as you've finished pulling your espresso. And, unusually for coffee machines, the Oracle® Jet's frother has settings that are optimised for dairy, soy, almond and oat – so you don’t need full-fat dairy for authentically frothy results.

Sage the Oracle Jet Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Machine New in £1,699.95

Why is Sage’s Oracle® Jet coffee machine special?

  • Barista guidance: the machine automatically identifies over- or under-extracted espresso shots, prompting you to adjust the grind size setting for the perfect shot.
  • Energy efficient: the Oracle® Jet is equipped with the ThermoJet® heating system, which is up to 32 per cent more energy efficient than other machines.
  • Wi-Fi: The Oracle® Jet is the first Wi-Fi-enabled coffee machine from Sage, which means new coffee recipes over time.
  • New cafe menu items: including Cold Brew and Cold Espresso.
  • Auto queue: save time by initiating the steaming of your milk while the espresso pours.

What is Sage’s Fast-Track Barista Pack?

Combining the machine, the specialist-roasted beans and the skills, it’s essentially everything you need to make café-quality coffee at home. While most competitors focus solely on selling machines, Sage does things a little differently, recognising that the true art of specialty coffee at home requires more than just great equipment – it’s about the perfect synergy of machine, beans, and know-how. Find out more here.

Step 1Buy a Sage Oracle® Jet from John Lewis
Step 2Register your new machine with Sage within 30 days and receive two free bags of coffee beans straight away
Step 3Then for every £200 spent on beanz.com by Sage you can claim £50 cashback (up to a total of £600 cashback)

The verdict: is the Oracle® Jet worth it?

Will you use it every day? Yes. Does that make it worth it? Definitely. It's quite loud, but it’s smaller (3cm in all dimensions), lighter (by 8kg) and less expensive than its big sister, the Oracle Touch, while still creating great coffee in mere moments. I love swiping and selecting my café favourites, and then being helped through the process of making it. Speciality coffee at home? It's life-enhanching, trust me.
