How our reviews work

In your review, you’ll be asked to give the product you’ve bought a star rating from one to five and describe your experience with it. We’ll ask you to rate it for quality and value for money, and, for some products, you can also share your opinions about sizing and fit.

As a thank you, every review you write will be entered into our monthly prize draw for the chance to win a £100 John Lewis gift card. We select new winners each month and will notify you by email within 14 days of the prize draw closing date if you’ve won. For more information, read our full prize draw terms and conditions.

Ratings & reviews

At John Lewis & Partners, we believe in honest and helpful reviews and by sharing what you think, you’ll help other customers find the right products and help us improve our products for you too. We also know how important reviews are for you to make informed choices. This policy explains how we manage reviews on Johnlewis.com and what we do to ensure they are fair, transparent and accurate.


Review Guidelines

To ensure we're able to publish your review, please:

●      Ensure your review contains a minimum of 50 characters.

●      Keep your review focused solely on the product.

●      Avoid mentioning other retailers or the specific price you paid.

●      Do not include any personal information, such as full names or addresses.

●      Ensure your review is based on your genuine experience.

So that we can resolve any issues as quickly as possible, if you are experiencing issues with our website and the review process, please contact us directly - we'll be happy to help.
 

Suspected fake/banned reviews

●      Suspected fake/banned reviews can be reported directly in the review, or by contacting our Customer Services Team.

●      Fake/banned reviews will either be blocked from publication or removed, with sanctions, such as account removal, taken for serious policy violations. 
 

How we handle reviews

●      Consumer reviews are listed chronologically by default, and with consistent formatting. There is no prominence awarded to favourable reviews.

●      The John Lewis complaints process is independent from consumer reviews, and there is no interference or blocking of customers from leaving negative consumer reviews, or from making a complaint.

We use a specialist independent company (PowerReviews) to manage and moderate all reviews on our websites:

●      Check for Authenticity: Their Authenticity Policy lays out the requirements under which content published on our websites (e.g. ratings, reviews, etc) is considered authentic, and sanctions taken for policy violations.

●      Moderate Reviews: Moderation Processes are applied to user-generated content, to detect and remove fake reviews, and to ensure reviews are only edited under strictly controlled conditions.

●      Label incentivised reviews: Sometimes, a customer might receive a product for free in exchange for an honest review. These reviews are called “incentivised reviews” and when we publish these reviews, we will always label them as “Received a free product: Yes” or similar labels so you know they were left as part of an incentive.

●      Label syndicated reviews: We may also publish reviews that originally appeared on other brands' websites and are shared with us by our third party service provider. These reviews must also meet our authenticity and moderation standards before we publish them. They will clearly be identified with a label.

Reviews that do not meet our Ratings and Reviews Policy and our Terms of Use outlined below will not be published and/or will be removed, and any such decision will be at our sole discretion. 


Your Role in Writing Reviews (Terms of Use)

These Terms of Use explain what we expect when you use our/John Lewis’s Customer Ratings and Review service (the "CRR Service"). To the extent of any conflict between John Lewis's Privacy Notice and these Terms of Use, these Terms of Use shall take precedence with respect to the CRR Service. You may only use the CRR Service if you agree to the following terms and conditions. Your use of the CRR Service demonstrates your acceptance of these terms and conditions and you agree to be bound by them.

By submitting your email address in connection with your rating and review, you agree that John Lewis and its third party service providers may use your email address to contact you about the status of your review and other administrative purposes.

By submitting any content to John Lewis, you represent and warrant that:

●      You are the sole author and owner of the intellectual property rights thereto;

●      All "moral rights" that you may have in such content have been voluntarily waived by you;

●      Everything you write in your review is accurate and your honest opinion about the product;

●      You are at least 18 years old;

●      Use of the content you supply does not violate these Terms of Use and will not cause injury to any person or entity; and

●      You are not using the website for any commercial purpose.
 

You further agree and warrant that you will not submit any content:

●      You know to be false, inaccurate or misleading;

●      That infringes any third party's copyright, patent, trade mark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy;

●      That violates any law, statute, ordinance or regulation (including, but not limited to, those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination or false advertising);

●      That is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libellous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any individual, partnership or corporation;

●      For which you were compensated or granted any consideration by any third party;

●      That includes any information that references other websites, addresses, email addresses, contact information or phone numbers;

●      For advertising purposes;

●      That is repeatedly submitted and/or vexatious; and/or

●      That contains any computer viruses, worms or other potentially damaging computer programs or files.


How we may use your review

By submitting your review, you understand and consent to John Lewis using the content submitted for any advertising and/or marketing purposes, which may include, but is not limited to, the use of your nickname, location, overall rating, review title, review and recommendation in any marketing and/or advertising in-store and in any social media channels, online, emails, John Lewis publications, magazines and editorials.

For any content that you submit, you grant John Lewis a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable right and license to use, copy, modify, delete in its entirety, adapt, publish, market, advertise, translate, create derivative works from and/or sell and/or distribute such content and/or incorporate such content into any form, medium or technology throughout the world without compensation to you.

All content that you submit may be used at John Lewis’s sole discretion. John Lewis reserves the right to change, condense or delete any content on John Lewis’s website that John Lewis deems, in its sole discretion, to violate the content guidelines or any other provision of these Terms of Use. John Lewis does not guarantee that you will have any recourse through John Lewis to edit or delete any content you have submitted. Ratings and written comments are generally posted within five business days. However, John Lewis reserves the right to remove or to refuse to post any review that does not meet our moderation standards.

You acknowledge that you, not John Lewis, are responsible for the contents of your submission.  Your views do not represent the views of John Lewis. None of the content that you submit shall be subject to any obligation of confidence on the part of John Lewis, its agents, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners or third party service providers and their respective directors, officers and employees.

We reserve the right to amend these Terms of Use from time to time.

How our average ratings work

Average ratings may contain organic reviews received from customers who have purchased the product, as well as various other collection methods. As such, they may include the following: reviews where the participant received a gift card or free product in exchange for an honest review, reviews written by Partners and reviews syndicated from brand websites

How to review items you bought online

There are a couple of ways to review your online purchases. 

If you have a johnlewis.com account, visit ‘My reviews’ on our website to start writing reviews.

  1. Sign into your account
  2. Go to ‘My Account’ and select ‘My reviews’. You can also find ‘My reviews’ under the ‘My Account’ menu on the homepage.
  3. Start reviewing your purchases

Or, you can find products to review by going to your online orders in your account, either on our website or in our app.

  1. Sign in and go to your account
  2. If you’re using our website, go to ‘Online orders’ and select ‘Order details’ on the order you want to review. If you’re using our app, go to ‘Orders & in-store receipts’ and select the order you want to review.
  3. Select ‘Write a review’ on the product to start your review

How to review items you bought in-store or using guest checkout

Currently, any items you purchase in store, or using guest checkout, will not be shown in your account. You can see your in-store receipts in your account if you used your My John Lewis card at purchase.

To review an in-store or guest checkout purchase, please sign into your account and go to the reviews section on the product’s page. Then, select the ‘Write a review’ button to open the review form.

Tips for writing a great review

DO

  • Focus on the product's features and benefits
  • Be specific about what you liked or disliked
  • Use clear and concise language so your review is easy to understand
  • Make sure your review is consistent with the overall rating you’ve given
     

DONT

  • Include any personal information about yourself or anyone else
  • Mention other shops or websites
  • Mention the product’s price
  • Use offensive language or personal insults

Review all your online purchases in one place

You can now review all your online purchases, up to the last 12 months, by visiting ‘My reviews’ in your account. You’ll also be able to see when your reviews are published and how many other customers found your reviews helpful.

How our moderation process works

Every review we receive goes through a third party for moderation before we publish it to ensure all our reviews contain relevant and appropriate information. We don’t publish reviews containing profanities, personal insults, personal information or that mention other websites. It’s important that your review focuses on the specific product and not on competitors, the John Lewis & Partners business, or your customer service experience.

It can take up to five days for your review to go through moderation. You can check the status of reviews you’ve submitted in the ‘Previous reviews’ tab in ‘My reviews’. Once your review gets approved, we’ll publish it on our website and the review status will change to ‘Published’.

If the status of your review is ‘Not published’, that means the review contains details we don’t publish. Although you can’t edit your review, you can submit a new review for the same product.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR CUSTOMER CONTENT AND THE PRIZE DRAW

Customer Generated Content Competition T&Cs

1 WHO CAN ENTER

1.1 This competition is open to all residents of the United Kingdom excluding Northern Ireland aged 18 years or over, except for employees of the Promoter, its associated companies, agents, third parties or anyone else professionally connected with this competition. Delivery of the prize must be within the United Kingdom excluding Northern Ireland.

1.2 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions. The instructions provided at the point of entry form part of the terms and conditions of this competition. In the event of a conflict, these terms and conditions take precedence. 


2 DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES2.1 Start Date: This promotion will be run monthly on the first day of every month from 1 October 2025.

2.2 Closing Date: Entries must be received for each month’s draw online by 23:59 on the last day of every month 

2.3 The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, amend, terminate or temporarily suspend this promotion in the event of any unforeseen circumstances or technical reason outside its reasonable control, with no liability to any entrants or third parties.


3 HOW TO ENTER

3.1 To enter, follow any of the below steps:Simply scan the QR code in store and follow the instructions on the landing page powered by Storystream. Follow the link in bio on the @johnlewis Instagram page and follow the competition instructions.Post on your Instagram profile and tag @johnlewis in your post. Please note, for this option your account must be set to public. You will receive a comment from John Lewis requesting the rights to feature your content on our site/channels. To enter into this competition, and in order for your entry to qualify, you must accept the rights request by replying to the comment with #AgreeJL. You can find the terms and conditions for agreeing to this rights request at jland.partners/ImageUse 

3.2 Each month, one entry will be registered per valid product image/video upload that has been validly submitted by you and accepted by the Promoter during that month. For each additional product image/video you submit in the month, an additional entry will be registered for that month’s prize draw. Automated or bulk entries will not be accepted.

3.3 The number of entries on this competition is not restricted

3.4 Proof of submitting your entry is not proof of receipt of an entry by the Promoter. The Promoter is not responsible for any entries that fail to be submitted for any technical reason whatsoever. Entries submitted by any other means (including by email and post) will be rejected. No responsibility will be accepted for entries that are lost, delayed, mislaid or damaged in transit, regardless of the cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. 

3.5 Those entries not in accordance with the rules will be void and will entitle the Promoter to exclude the entry from the competition; any entry containing false or incomplete information or AI generated content will be void and will entitle the Promoter to exclude the entry from the competition.3.6 The Promoter reserves the right to remove or to refuse to post any submission for any reason and any refused posts will not be entered into the prize draw. In writing your review, you acknowledge that you, not the Promoter, are responsible for the contents of your submission.


4 THE PRIZE

4.1  Five winners will each receive a £100 John Lewis Partnership gift card via email from a member of the social media team from the email address ratings.and.reviews@johnlewis.co.uk, or via direct message on Instagram from the official John Lewis Instagram account.

4.2 Any expenses in the general use of and enjoyment of the prize that the winners or their guests incur are the sole responsibility of the winners or their guests.

4.3. Prizes are subject to availability. They are non-transferable, non-refundable and, unless stated, there are no cash alternatives. Returns are only available for an exchange rather than monetary value. The Promoter reserves the right to award an alternative prize of equal or greater value, should the advertised prize or any part of it become unavailable for any reason.

4.4 John Lewis Partnership vouchers can be exchanged for goods in all John Lewis & Partners stores, including johnlewis.com and Waitrose & Partners. Gift vouchers cannot be used to discharge indebtedness in respect of an account card or credit card issued by John Lewis plc, Waitrose Ltd or John Lewis Money Ltd, nor can they be used for the purchase either directly or indirectly of any financial product or service. Winners are bound by the terms and conditions of the gift card, as well as any expiry dates indicated on the gift card itself.


5 WINNERS SELECTION5.1 There will be five winners chosen by a panel of judges from John Lewis, based on the quality of the images/videos submitted.

5.2 The winners’ details (name and county) will be available for one month after the Closing Date by sending a request to the Promoter at John Lewis plc, 1 Drummond Gate, London, SW1V 2QQ, enclosing a stamped self-addressed envelope.

5.3 The winners will be selected within 28 days of each monthly closing date.


6 WINNER NOTIFICATION

6.1 The winner will either be notified via email from a member of the social media team from the email address ratings.and.reviews@johnlewis.co.uk, or via direct message on Instagram from the official John Lewis Instagram account. This will happen as soon as practicable after the winner is selected, using the contact details provided with the competition entry if via upload, or the Instagram used to tag @JohnLewis upon entry. The winner will be required to respond within 48 hours of notification (unless otherwise stated) confirming their acceptance of the prize. In the event the winner does not respond to communications within this period or if any prize is declined, the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify that winner and select another winner.

6.2 Please allow 7 days from the date of the winner’s address verification for delivery of the prize.  


7 DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY

7.1 By entering the competition, you understand that for the purposes of administering the competition and prize fulfilment, it is necessary for the Promoter to hold and process your personal data:(a) John Lewis Plc , 1Drummond Gate, Pimlico, London SW1V 2QQ.

7.2 If you have opted-in to receiving further information from the Promoter and/or its agents or suppliers, you agree that the relevant party may use and store these details to provide further information about their products and services (in accordance with the privacy policy of the relevant entity). 

7.3 If you are the winner of the competition, you agree that the Promoter may use your email, name, image and county of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes, for no further consideration.

7.4 By uploading an image via the QR code or link you give us permission to use your image across any John Lewis marketing material; including but not limited to Instagram, relevant product pages on johnlewis.com and email marketing communications.


8 OWNERSHIP OF COMPETITION ENTRIES AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

8.1 All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned (“your submission”).

8.2 You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your submission available on its website johnlewis.com and any other media including for marketing purposes, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:(a) assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and(b) waive all moral rights,in and to your submission and otherwise arising in connection with your submission to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world. 

8.3 By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material you warrant that:(a) your submission is an original work, is not defamatory and does not infringe third-party rights; and(b) there are no conflicting agreements in place that restrict usage of your submission.


9 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

9.1 The Promoter and its associated agencies, companies and distributors will not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense or damage which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with this competition or accepting or using the prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (including liability for fraud or death or personal injury arising from negligence) in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law. Your statutory rights are not affected.

9.2 If you have opted-in to receive further information or marketing from any of the Promoter’s agents or suppliers involved in the administration of this competition, you understand and accept that the relevant third party will be solely responsible for any processing of your personal data for these purposes, that such processing will be governed by terms of that third party’s privacy policy and that the Promoter accepts no responsibility or liability in association with any such data processing for these purposes.


10 GENERAL

10.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions or if the Promoter believes that your conduct may be unlawful or otherwise bring the competition into disrepute, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to make your entry void and will entitle the Promoter to exclude you from participating in the competition.

10.2 The decision of the Promoter regarding any aspect of the competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.

10.3 The Promoter reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so, with no liability to any entrants or third parties.

10.4 This competition and all issues arising out of it shall be governed in accordance with English Law and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Customer Generated Content, including Reviews and Images

These Terms of Use govern your conduct and John Lewis & Partners rights associated with the Customer Ratings and Reviews, Customer Generated Content and Question and Answer services offered by John Lewis & Partners (the "CRR Service"). These Terms of Use are in addition to John Lewis & Partners Privacy Policy referred to below. To the extent of any conflict between John Lewis & Partners' Privacy Policies and these Terms of Use, these Terms of Use shall take precedence with respect to the CRR Service. In these Terms of Use, any reference to John Lewis & Partners will be deemed to include a reference to Waitrose & Partners.

By submitting any content to John Lewis & Partners, you represent and warrant that:

You agree to indemnify and hold John Lewis & Partners (and its officers, directors, agents, subsidiaries, joint ventures, employees and third-party service providers, including but not limited to our Ratings and Reviews service provider) harmless from all claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of a breach of your representations and warranties set forth above, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

For any content that you submit, you grant John Lewis & Partners a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable right and license to use, copy, modify, delete in its entirety, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and/or sell and/or distribute such content and/or incorporate such content into any form, medium or technology throughout the world without compensation to you.

All content that you submit may be used at sole discretion of John Lewis & Partners, who reserve the right to change, condense or delete any content on johnlewis.com that John Lewis & Partners deems, in its sole discretion, to violate the content guidelines or any other provision of these Terms of Use.   • You grant John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners exclusive permission to use Your content in support of any advertising and promotional activities carried out by John Lewis & Partners. This may include, without limitation JLP to use your content in any advertising and promotional material (including print, television, online or social media advertisement campaign.
  • You grant John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable right and license to use, copy, modify, delete in its entirety, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and/or sell and/or distribute Your Content and/or incorporate Your Content into any form, medium or technology throughout the world without compensation to you. This may include John Lewis & Partners distributing Your Content to a third party provider for use in any John Lewis & Partners related advertisement campaign.
  • You confirm that you are the parent or guardian of any children featured in Your Content, or that you have obtained the express authorisation from the parent or guardian of any children featuring in Your Content.

You understand that for the purposes of administering the CRR services, it may be necessary for John Lewis & Partners to hold and process your personal data and for your likeness to be in the public domain. Ratings and Reviews Prize Draw

By submitting your email address in connection with your rating and review, you agree that John Lewis & Partners and its third-party service providers may use your email address to contact you about the status of your review and other administrative purposes.

  • Promotion open to residents of Great Britain, aged 18 or over, excluding anyone professionally connected with this promotion.
  • To enter, simply write a review of any product on johnlewis.com and you will be entered into a prize draw. Each month, one entry will be registered per product review that has been validly submitted by you and accepted by the Promoter during that month. For each additional product review you submit in the month, an additional entry will be registered for that month’s prize draw. Automated or bulk entries will not be accepted.
  • Start Date: This promotion will be run monthly on the first day of every month from 1 November 2013.
  • Closing Date: Entries must be received for each month’s draw online by 23:59 on the last day of every month 
  • We reserve the right to terminate the competition at any point
  • There are 5 prizes each month, each prize being a £100 John Lewis Partnership gift voucher.
  • The winners will be the first 5 entrants drawn monthly at random from all valid submitted entries. The winners will be selected and notified by email within 14 days of each monthly closing date.
  • The prize will be sent in the post to the winner following such notification within a further 14 days.
  • In the event that any winner refuses acceptance of the prize or, for whatever reason, cannot accept the prize, or if the Promoter is unable to make contact with any winner within 14 days of the draw, the Promoter reserves the right to re-draw the prize and award it to an alternative winner.
  • The selection of the winning entries will be supervised by an independent person. The result of the prize draw is final and binding in all matters and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The monthly winners’ details (name and county) will be available for six weeks from the last day of each month by sending a SAE to John Lewis plc, 1 Drummond Gate, Pimlico, London, SW1V 2QQ to be received on or after the last day of each month.
  • Proof of submitting your entry is not proof of receipt of an entry by the Promoter. The Promoter is not responsible for any entries that fail to be submitted for any technical reason whatsoever. Entries submitted by any other means (including by email and post) will be rejected.

  • When redeeming gift vouchers online at johnlewis.com you will be required to give the serial number on the vouchers, plus the code beneath the scratch off panel. Once the panel has been scratched off this gift voucher can no longer be redeemed in a store.
  • Gift vouchers cannot be used to discharge indebtedness in respect of an account card or credit card issued by John Lewis plc, Waitrose Ltd or John Lewis Money Ltd, nor can they be used for the purchase either directly or indirectly of any financial product or service.
  • Gift vouchers are non-transferrable and no cash alternative is available.
  • Gift vouchers may not be exchanged directly for cash.
