Product description

Product code: 65138609

Trelliage has been created by combining two naturalistic nineteenth century archive patterns. A flowering trellis design with undulating branches and flowers provides a classic structure. Then, a selection of exquisitely detailed Victorian botanical representations from another design in the archive were interspersed within the trellis pattern, giving way to a design that is "classicism recontextualised"

In the words of Giles, "The Victorians were fascinated by nature, natural history, and new discoveries of flora and fauna. These extraordinary, delicate, and remarkable motifs featured In Trelliage, are a fantastical example of this, transporting us back to the era."

Printed on a linen union for upholstery use.

Founded by William Morris in 1861, one of the 19th-century’s most celebrated textile designers, Morris & Co. is best known for wallpaper and fabric designs.

Morris championed handmade production, in contrast to the Victorian era’s push towards industrialisation. He wanted to provide affordable ‘art for all’ so the designs are intricate and beautiful, often drawing on the wildlife and nature he found around him.
